Honoring veteran first responders will be the theme of this year’s Veterans Day parade in Las Cruces.
The city announced that its 28th annual Las Cruces Veterans Day Parade will begin its procession at 11 a.m. on Saturday downtown.
The staging area will be at Main Street and Lohman Avenue, and the parade will move north on Main to the roundabout by city hall, turning to continue south on Water Street back to the staging area, according to a news release.
The reviewing stand will be at Main Street and Las Cruces Avenue, where opening ceremonies and medal presentations will begin at 10:30 a.m.
A cannon will be fired near the reviewing stand as the parade launches, the city warned, but it will be “firing blanks,” the city said.
Main and other streets feeding into the parade route will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday. Parking will be available at the lot south of the El Paso Electric building, the Doña Ana County Judicial Complex, Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and city hall, and other parking lots downtown between Main and Church streets, the release stated.
