Uncovering Chihuahua Hill

Posted

The Silver City Museum’s new curator, Javier Marrufo, is passionate about the Chihuahua Hill neighborhood of his hometown and wants to pass that along.

Marrufo will give a presentation on his ongoing oral history work at Silver City’s Chihuahua Hill, which is one of the town’s oldest and least understood neighborhoods.

The talk by Marrufo will be at 11 a.m. on Sept. 18 at the Silco Theatre, 311 N. Bullard St., and via Zoom.

The presentation will give a behind-the-scenes look at how Marrufo is working with professional folklorist Dr. Thomas Grant Richardson to create the first comprehensive history of the neighborhood.

Marrufo will share excerpts from interviews with longtime residents with ties to Chihuahua Hill.

Through Marrufo’s eyes, the museum will explore an important aspect of local history that has been largely overlooked with little documentation. This project seeks to change that by gathering stories, photographs and memorabilia from those with connections to the historic neighborhood.

Marrufo will take questions from the audience and provide details on how the public can support the project.

The event is co-sponsored by the Silver City Museum and the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning.
