The Hood is featuring work by a range of outstanding artists in its Virtual Visiting Artist Series, which began earlier this year.
The interviews/artist talks are held at 11 a.m. Sunday and can be watched live at www.instagram.com/tv/CLSGlMAgL6a. The programs will be recorded, so they will also be available for viewing at that site after their live presentations.
There is no charge to watch.
The series “is one of the many ways we continue to adapt to the ever-changing environment Covid has brought us into,” said The Hood Shop Manager Sephra Reyes. “Our goal here is to give the artists we represent a larger platform to showcase their work. These 20-30-minute interviews are run on Instagram Live, and are recorded and archived onto our account with the IGTV feature. We'll also be expanding to highlight local galleries and potentially small businesses that support local artists in the Las Cruces area,” she said.
Here is the schedule, with more to be added.
If you visit the Instagram sight now, you can watch an interview with and the works of Paula Van Overbeke Voris, the artist featured in Virtual Visiting Artist Series No. 1; and Las Cruces artist, printmaker and art teacher Chris Bardey, the series’ second participating artist.
Las Cruces artist and entrepreneur Richard Parra, former owner of Spirit Winds, opened the Hood at 3206 Harrelson St. in Mesilla Park in December 2019 as “a place for community, a resource for art and a source for apparel, one-of-a-kind jewelry, classic cars and motorcycles,” according to www.thehoodnewmexico.com.
The Hood is open noon-5 p.m. Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. Sundays and by appointment during the week. Visit www.thehoodnewmexico.com or find The Hood on social media to set up a private appointment.
