Bex Marshall

Blues Roots and Ragtime Soul

6 p.m.

$15/adv,  $20/door

Bex Marshall has emerged as one of Britainʼs fiercest blues voices, both vocally and on guitar. She began her musical journey at just 11, when she received a 1963 Gibson Hummingbird from her uncle. That pivotal gift launched her into an odyssey of classical, flamenco, ragtime, country-pickinʼ, rock and homegrown blues, ultimately forging her signature hybrid style of slide, ragtime, blues-rock and soulful roots playing. Marshallʼs voice channels heartache with raw, piercing emotion, a “melting pot of old black womanʼs heartache and rock diva soul.ˮ Her guitar is not just accompaniment; it tells its own stories. For British Blues Award winner and guitar virtuoso Bex Marshall, music has always been a passport. In 2013 Bex was asked by “Big Brother and the Holding Companyʼs Sam Andrewsˮ to be the ‘Voice of Janis’ on his last tour of the UK. And then there’s her songs.

Indie Folk Artists

With harp, guitar, and sometimes tenor banjo in tow, this freaky little Ozark bard comes bearing gifts- songs from somewhere between the real and the ethereal landscapes of their life.

Dandelioness is known for her radioactive falsetto, visceral performances, and the strange, hypnotic spell she casts on every room she steps into. Equal parts bohemian goth, cosmic diarist, and mischievous shadow-work guide, she turns rock clubs into listening rooms and listening rooms into portals. She is the will-o-the-wisp leading listeners gently through their shadows; playful, vulnerable, haunted, and utterly alive.

Land of the People: Tierra Sagrada

From Dec. 20, 2025 – Mar. 14, we are featuring the Tortugas Pueblo.

Working with Colonel Eugene Van Patton, the Pueblo obtained 40 acres of land south of Las Cruces in 1908. In 1914, La Corporación de los Indigenes de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe was formed. The members of the Pueblo and its extended community have since remained active in the Mesilla Valley.

This featured rotating space changes every 12 weeks, which allows each Indigenous group to go deeper into their own unique stories, traditions, and perspectives.

The exhibit sequence is as follows: Pueblo of Tortugas, Dec. 20 – Mar. 14; Mescalero Apache Tribe, Apr. 4 – June 27; Piro-Manso-Tiwa Indian Tribe, July 18– Oct. 10; Chiricahua Apache Nation, Nov. 7– Jan. 30, 2027; and Gila Apache, Feb. 20 – May 15, 2027.

Qualified artists may submit up to three art pieces for consideration, in either 2-D or 3-D format. Any artistic medium is acceptable, including, but not limited to, painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, digital art, and mixed media. All submitted artwork must be an original piece, either created within the last five years or specifically in response to the exhibition themes of the Call for Art. Artwork must not infringe on copyrights or include AI-generated components.

Gila trout

Silver City students set to release Gila trout raised in the classroom

Trout Unlimited

Students from G.W. Stout Elementary are readying to release Gila trout fingerlings into the wild. The release will take place at Lake Roberts on April 2.

The students raised the fish from eggs in a classroom tank as part of the Trout in the Classroom Program. The students raise the fish throughout the school year and teachers use the fish to help teach biology, chemistry, math and writing. When the students release the fish, they are about an inch and a half long.

The students raised Gila trout, which is one of the rarest trout species in North America. Gila trout are native to the Gila region and one of two trout species native to New Mexico. The program at G.W. Stout Elementary is supported by the Gila/Rio Grande Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Mesilla Valley Fly Fishers, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Silver Consolidated Schools, and NM Department of Wildlife. The national conservation organization Trout Unlimited developed the program to bring nature into the classroom. Programs now occur in classrooms throughout New Mexico.

Sixth graders from G.W. Stout Elementary will release the fingerlings, now about 5
