A FINE TIME

Territorial Charter Day

Love Local, Urban Challenge Fun Run

Posted

Saturday, Feb. 15 is Territorial Charter Day and Silver City MainStreet has two promotions to celebrate Territorial Charter Day. They are the Urban Challenge Fun Run and Love Local.

In 2020, Silver City MainStreet is asking residents to Love Local by shopping and dining in downtown Silver City with your Valentine. Downtown Silver City offers more than 20 places to dine and drink, more than 20 retail shops with affordable gifts, and more than 20 galleries offering everything from funky contemporary art to fine art.

“There are more than 140 businesses downtown,” said Patrick Hoskins, board president of Silver City MainStreet. “There are antique shops, retail shops, galleries, restaurants and coffee houses, day spas, historic hotels, the Silco Theater, the Silver City Museum, real estate offices, The El Sol Theater and more than 25 service businesses. It’s a great mix of businesses and that is what makes our downtown vibrant. We hope to encourage more residents to come downtown to dine and shop. Visitors are impressed by our downtown, and we hope residents will have that same excitement and pride in downtown once they come down and really see everything that is offered.”

The Urban Challenge Fun Run is a 5K that winds through downtown and is organized by Western New Mexico University track coach Macario Campos and the track team. It is a very family friendly event and even friendly and leashed dogs participate. The entry fee is three cans of food that will be donated to the Grant County and WNMU food pantries. The first 100 registered runners will receive a free race t-shirt. The race starts at 9 a.m. on Feb. 15. To register email Mary@silvercitymainstreet.com or visit www.silvercitymainstreet.com . Medals will be awarded for each age category.
