The New Mexico State University Music Department will host its fifth annual Halloween Silent Movie Gala with a screening of Sean Branney and Andrew Leman’s 2005 retelling of the H.P. Lovecraft classic, The Call of Cthulhu,” with live musical accompaniment provided by Fred Bugbee, Rhonda Taylor, Michael Mapp, Jacob Dalager and Christian Chesanek.

The gala begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Atkinson Recital Hall in the NMSU Music Building, 1075 N. Horseshoe St. on campus.

Suggested donation is $5, which benefits the Partners for Musical Excellence fund.

Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.

The gala is made possible with support from the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society and Sean Branney.

Lovecraft (1890-1937) wrote “The Call of Cthulhu,” a short story, in 1926. It was first published in the pulp magazine “Weird Tales” in February 1928. The story is based on a dream Lovecraft had about a visit he made to a museum in Providence, Rhode Island. For more information, contact Rena Crollett at 575-646-2421.
