Project in Motion offers ‘The-Air-ter’ season with workshops, live performances

Posted

Project in Motion (PIM), Las Cruces’ aerial dance company, will host workshops, climb times and live performances in October and November as part of its “The-AIR-ter” season of theater, dance and aerial dance, PIM said.

All workshops and performances will be held at PIM studios, 430 N. Compress Road.

  • Building Foundations and Expanding Vocabulary for Aerial Fabric workshops will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17, and Nov. 6-7, and will be led by Emma Cady, a Seattle-based aerialist, circus artist, actor and movement artist who is in residence at PIM. Classes and private lessons also will be available, PIM said, along with open climbs. Contact PIM for dates and times of classes, which are available for children and adults.

Workshops are $10 each or $40 for four hour-long sessions and $15 each or $50 for four 90-minute sessions.

  • Los Angeles-based aerialist Lydia Lara will host workshops Tuesday through Sunday, Oct. 26-31, with times to be announced.

Registration for all workshops is limited and masks are required. Covid-19 vaccination is required for all participants ages 13 and older.

  • “Shahrazade: The Woman Behind The Arabian Nights,” featuring performances by Emma Cady, Lydia Lara (who performs as Shahrazade), Chloe London and PIM company members, will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28, 29 and 30, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31. Tickets are $10.

The production is “a tribute to the storyteller who told the stories in ‘The 1001 Arabian Nights,’” PIM said. “The queen who gave the world legends such as Sinbad, Aladdin and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves was an ingenious gatherer of tales that spanned the Silk Road and the trading routes across the Middle East. Her own story was one of desperate survival which involved narrating stories and outwitting her own husband.”
