The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery (MVFA), 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe, across from the Fountain Theatre on the Mesilla Plaza, will feature local artists Mary Zawacki and Kurt Van Wagner in June.
Zawacki moved to Las Cruces in 2011. She paints primarily with oils and pastels. For more than 20 years, Zawacki worked as an advertising art director and graphic designer for advertising agencies specializing in the movie industry in Los Angeles. She grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Zawacki became seriously interested in fine art when she studied pastel painting at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
Van Wagner, a photographer, is a native of California and has been a MVFA gallery member for 14 years. His photographs capture the local scenes of New Mexico as well as tasteful figurative nudes and his world travels, MVFA said.
Van Wagner traveled to Myanmar in 2017 and photographed the beautiful country and its charming people. His featured work in the gallery for June is “Reflections of Myanmar,” which he has dedicated to the people of Myanmar and their recent struggles for their freedom.
MVFAG features the work of 30 artists in various media, including oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, fused glass art jewelry, woodturnings, stained glass, photography, ceramics, mixed media, decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, art tile, fiber art, natural gemstone jewelry, colored pencil, basket weavings, charcoal, pen and ink, prints, cards and miniature paintings.
MVFAG is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with limited access because of public health orders.
First American Bank, 1553 Avenida de Mesilla, is well represented by gallery members who rotate their artwork monthly at the bank.
