Mesilla Valley Concert Band has Mother’s Day concert

Mesilla Valley Concert Band (MVCB) will perform a Mother's Day concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at Atkinson Recital Hall, New Mexico State University Music Building, 1075 N. Horseshoe St. on campus.

There is no charge to attend, and the public is invited.

The concert will include:

  • “Amparito Roca,” directed by Joseph Flores, Las Cruces Public Schools;
  • “Malagueña,” directed by Steven Smyth, director of NMSU Pride Bands;
  • “Iberian Escapades,” directed by NMSU Director of Bands Michael Mapp, who is also MVCB director;
  • “Machu Picchu,” directed by Mapp;
  • “Symphonic Dance No. 3,” directed by Deming High School Band Director Johnny Lang.

MVCB also has a concert scheduled on Tuesday, July 4.

MVCB was founded in 1987 by William Clark, John Schutz and Mike White. During the past 35 years, it has grown from 30 participants to about 100.
