Legends, Myths, and More

Posted

It’s interesting sometimes how things come together even when they aren’t specifically planned. Such is the case for this month’s edition of Desert Exposure.

Inside this magazine, you’ll have a chance to raise your awareness of the Chiricahua Apache Nation and to be intrigued by the stories of sculptors who have turned their attention to wood as a medium. Two other stories focus on the same topic—a legend, a myth even. They end up in this issue not because I had the wisdom to plan them together, but because of my dumb luck.

At the same time we moved our focus in “Unpacking Silver City” to Billy the Kid, Brian D’Ambrosio submitted a story on the Kid’s mother, Catherine Antrim. We probably have more evidence related to her life than to his.

Hopefully you enjoy reading both accounts. The study of Billy the Kid is more a study of the way his legend has been portrayed over the years than a strict history, but I think that’s the twist that intrigues me.

If you’re looking for a list of places to go and things to do, I hope you’ll find it here in this magazine. If we’ve missing something please keep us updated about current happenings in the region.

I look forward to hearing from you as you share your stories and those of people you know and love. I can’t wait to share them in future issues of Desert Exposure.
