Not much changed in the 2024 general election when it comes to who represents Las Cruces at the Roundhouse.
But as the 2025 Legislative session pushes into its second month, the Las Crucesens in Santa Fe are set to play prominent roles in shaping New Mexico’s future. Whether in the Senate or the House of Representatives, each legislator is placed on committees – a key step for shaping new laws.
Las Cruces' newest representative, Rep. Sarah Silva (D—53), was appointed to the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, House Taxation and Revenue Committee, and House Enrolling and Engrossing Committee.
Rep. Nathan Small (D – 36) was reappointed as chair of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee – which oversees the creation of the state budget. Small is also a member of the House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources and House Printing and Supplies Committee.
Elsewhere, Rep. Micaela Lara Cadena (D—33) serves on the House Taxation and Revenue Committee and the House Agriculture, Acequias, and Water Resources Committee.
Rep. Raymundo Lara (D – 34) is the vice chair of House Transportation, Public Works & Capital Improvements. He also sits on the House Education Committee, House Printing and Supplies Committee, and the House Rules and Order of Business Committee.
Rep. Angelica Rubio (D – 35) is the vice chair of the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee and sits on the House Agriculture, Acequias, and Water Resources Committee.
Rep. Joanne Ferrary (D – 37) is the chair of House Consumer and Public Affairs. She also sits on the House Health and Human Services Committee.
Rep. Doreen Gallegos (D – 52) is the chair of the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee and sits on the House Taxation and Revenue Committee and the House Rules and Order of Business Committee.
On the Senate side, Sen. Joe Cervantes (D—31) is chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He also sits on the Senate Conservation Committee and Senate Committees' Committee.
Sen. Jeff Steinborn (D – 36) is a member of the Senate Finance Committee.
Sen. William “Bill” Soules (D – 37) is chair of Senate Education and vice chair of Senate Indian, Rural and Cultural Affairs.
Sen. Carrie Hamblen (D – 38) is chair of the Senate Tax, Business, and Transportation and sits on the Senate Conservation Committee.
