The community radio station, KTAL-LP on 101.5 FM, is enlarging its Hall of Fame this Saturday, July 26, by adding three new members.
The radio station created the Las Cruces Community Radio Hall of Fame last year to honor Nan Rubin, who was a critical leader for the radio station, upon her departure from the area.
The new inductees will include the founders of the station, as well as some of the current show hosts and leaders. The event will take place as part of an anniversary celebration to recognize KTAL-LP’s eight years on the air from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at the radio station, 121 Wyatt Dr., No. 9.
Walt Rubel, KTAL general manager, said that eight years ago, there was a heated debate among the founders as to whether the station was ready to go on the air or not.
“Those arguing to take the plunge won the day,” he said.
KTAL-LP now offers seven local news and talk shows, plus 22 locally produced music shows covering genres from Americana to punk rock to appeal to a broad variety of tastes.
The event will include a silent auction and will raise money for the radio station, which relies largely on community support. Attendees will also be able to tour the radio station and meet show hosts. Attendees will also be able to record the station’s ID for broadcast in the future.
