NEW MEXICO HEALTH INSURANCE EXCHANGE

Enrollment open for New Mexicans seeking health insurance

Posted

BeWellnm, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, has announced ongoing special enrollment for the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, which ends May 15. The special three-month reopening of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance marketplace provides uninsured New Mexicans with a new opportunity to find affordable coverage.

“BeWellnm encourages all uninsured New Mexicans to begin the enrollment process as soon as possible, because of the limited amount of time to find comprehensive, affordable health insurance options,” said Maureen Manring, director of communication and outreach for beWellnm. “People who have lost job-based insurance during the pandemic or remain uninsured may not realize they are now eligible to enroll in the marketplace.”

Manring said more than 56,000 uninsured New Mexicans qualify for significant premium reductions.

“Having the security of health insurance coverage may be more affordable than you think,” Manring said. “BeWellnm is the only place where you can get financial assistance to provide you with low-cost or no-cost insurance, and free local help to explore your options. If you are considering enrolling in health insurance, call 1-833-862-3935 for assistance or visit beWellnm.com and schedule a virtual appointment. You could be covered by March 1, so sign up now. All plans cover the 10 essential benefits, such as doctor visits, hospital stays, maternity care, emergency room care, prescriptions and more.”

Federal law and regulations provide protections against preexisting condition exclusions in health insurance coverage. Health plans must permit New Mexicans to enroll regardless of health status, age, gender or other factors that may predict the use of health services. With the special enrollment period underway, the New Mexico health insurance companies participating in the beWellnm marketplace include:

  • Ambetter from Western Sky Community
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico
  • Friday Health Plans
  • Molina Health Care of New Mexico
  • True Health New Mexico

Financial help is available to New Mexicans who qualify. A premium subsidy helps pay for health insurance, and the amount is based on income, family size and other factors.

The beWellnm team of certified navigators, enrollment counselors, agents, brokers and staff services are free, Manring said. They are available to help those in need review and explain health insurance options through telephone assistance or virtual appointments at 833-862-3935 or online by visiting beWellnm.com.

Manring said BeWellnm was created to help individuals and small businesses get access to affordable health insurance plans. BeWellnm helps consumers compare health insurance plans and choose the plan that works best for their health needs and budget. BeWellnm also helps individuals determine whether they are eligible for premium assistance and if so, at what level.

Through beWellnm for Small Business, small businesses are able to purchase competitively priced health insurance plans and offer their employees the ability to choose from an array of plans. Enrollment counselors and insurance agents are available throughout the state to help with signing up for health insurance.
