Doña Ana Community College accepting holiday donations for children in need; pet donation drive continues

Doña Ana Community College’s Education Club is accepting donations for children in need for the upcoming holiday season, DACC said in a news release.

The Education Club is sponsoring a family of four through the Jardin de los Niños Adopt-a-Family Campaign.

“Jardin de los Niños is more than a preschool or daycare center,” the news release said. Jardin also provides “crucial services such as emergency food, shelter and much more for children and families in need.”

Funds raised from the campaign will go toward providing toys for the family’s children and winter clothing for the entire family.

“This fundraiser is very important to us. As instructors of education and for our future educators, we want to ensure every child and their family are able to have a great and deserving holiday season,” said, DACC Early Childhood Education associate professor Kathryn Million.

DACC’s Education Club is hoping to exceed its fundraising goal of $200.

DACC still accepting donations for dogs and cats

DACC will continue as a drop-off location for donations to help local dogs and cats at two of the area’s animal organizations, the community college said in another news release.

Area residents can stop by the DACC East Mesa campus main building, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., to donate items, which will then be given to the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV) and ACTion Programs for Animals of Las Cruces (APA).

The items most needed for donation are used, but clean towels and blankets, dog food, cat food, leashes and collars of all sizes and toys for both dogs and cats.

Donations will be accepted until the second week of December, DACC said.

Donations will also be accepted at Bravo Mic Communications, 101 Perkins Drive, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout December.

Adoptable dogs and cats, puppies and kittens can be viewed at https://ascmv.org/adoptions/ (ASCMV) and https://apalascruces.org/adopt/ (APA).
