Cruces Car Show set for family celebration

Jeff Jansen started organizing car events in July of 2021 at Bravo Chevrolet in El Paso because there was nothing out there at the time for car lovers to participate in. It’s become a family affair with his daughters Katie Jansen and Molly Jansen helping with design and promotion.

Then, when the staff changed in El Paso, Jeff brought his organizing talent to Las Cruces and now works with Lou and Pat Sisbarro to produce events like the Cruces Car Show Fiesta, coming up 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, 425 W. Boutz Road in Las Cruces.

“The point is to keep it free for the community to get involved with,” Katie said of the upcoming fiesta event. “It’s free to attend, free to be in the car show, free to win the trophies, free to enter the drawings we do.”

Jeff and his organization, 575 Cars, are opening this for voluntary donations for the first time since he started.

“Donations go to a good cause,” he said, “100 percent will go to the Boy Scouts Troop 68 in Las Cruces.”

Scouts with Troop 68 will be on hand during the event helping, welcoming vehicles through the gates and directing guests, Jeff said.

In addition to having 200-300 cars to wander through, there will be live music; a kid’s corner including a bouncy house and games with prizes; food trucks for refreshments; and booths with information, including venders and non-profit organizations.

“It’s really a community event.” Jeff said. “I focus on families, and I like to have spectators not just for cars. It’s going to be good for everybody.”

575 Cars also produces a car Spring Fest and, this for the first time, will be holding an Octoberfest Volkswagen show this year, Oct. 21, at Sisbarro Volkswagen Autoworld.

“He has always had a love for cars, especially Corvettes,” Katie said. “This event has become known in this area. Car culture people come from all over.”
