A “Community Mental Health Celebration” will be held at 5:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) Sunday, June 4, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. downtown.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include music by Forester and Cassie & David from El Paso, Taylor Paul of Las Cruces and Nicolas Roche of Albuquerque, said Liz “Lizard King” Liano, the event organizer.
There will be poetry readings from Richie D. Marrufo, Chauncey, Cassie and David from El Paso; and from Tim Staley, Mel, Saul and Lizard King of Las Cruces.
Community speakers will include representatives from local mental health agencies, Liano said. State Senator Carrie Hamblen of Las Cruces will also speak. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southern New Mexico and the Las Cruces Suicide Prevention Task Force will have information tables at the event.
The celebration is being held “to spread awareness of mental health,” Liano said.
“The goal is to continue creating lighter and more convivial spaces to discuss topics like mental health and bring the community closer together on a common ground,” she said.
