That’s the idea of The Cat’s Meow Resource and Adoption Center (CMAC) having a fundraising book fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Barnes & Noble, located inside Mesilla Valley Mall, 700 S. Telshor Blvd.
The Cat’s Meow will have a table at Barnes & Noble that day, and if you mention “Cat’s Meow” when making a purchase at B&N, the nonprofit will get a percentage of the proceeds from your purchase.
You can also benefit Cat’s Meow when you shop at B&N online, Dec. 4-9, using the code 12618153 at the checkout.

Cat and kitten fosters needed
“CMAC is still on kitten overload,” Cat’s Meow said in an email about the book fair. “We are working hard to find temporary placements for some in foster homes. When a cat or kitten is placed in foster care, we post pictures and descriptions of each kitten and cat on our Petfinder site. When someone is interested in a kitty, we bring them to Cat's Meow for a meet and greet. Works out pretty well, but we sure could use more foster homes. Too many kitties, not enough fosters.”
Anyone who wants to provide a foster home for a cat or kitten can contact CMAC at one of the phone numbers or the email listed below. Visit www.thecatsmeowlascruces.com/adoptions
and click on “PetFinder” to see cats and kittens available for adoption.
Spaying and neutering – donations needed
Four volunteers organize CMAC’s spay/neuter clinics.
“They often arrive at 7 a.m. to start moving furniture and cats to make room for up to 40 cats and kittens to be dropped off for surgery,” CMAC said. When the last cat is picked up by its owner, CMAC volunteers put the cats and furniture back where they belong and feed the cats. That means the volunteers often put in a 12-hour day.
“Although there is a charge for this service (the ladies who organize it are volunteers), a large portion of the cost is picked up by Cat's Meow,” CMAC said.
Visit www.thecatsmeowlascruces.com and click on “CMAC Century Club!” or “donate” to make an online donation.
You can mail donations to The Cat’s Meow Resource and Adoption Center, P.O. Box 3166, Las Cruces, N.M. 88003.
Visit the adoption center at 2211 N. Mesquite St.
CMAC is open to visitors 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday without an appointment.
