Starlight Projects Foundation has launched “The PARA//EL Axis,” a global collaboration of local artists engaging in community activism through art, the foundation said in a news release.
“The idea is to be a container, and the pith, or the center of the spiral, the axis, for local artists to be able to bring forth their starlight and shine, then reverberate that across all platforms, to the far reaches of the earth and beyond, and cause a tidal wave of change that unites us all under the same mission,” said foundation Executive Director Krystaline Sakwanomtewa.
The PARA//EL Axis has opened a donation-based art studio/gallery at 400 S. Compress Road, suite K in Las Cruces, “where all member artists get to place, promote, showcase, trade and find a new home for their art,” the news release said. All proceeds generated from the store go to the artists.
“The PARA//EL Axis is a new program that will enable the foundation to grow the project from
an idea of the donation-based store to the vision of a full-blown, concrete, local community
center to showcase the power of community activism through art,” Sakwanomtewa said.
Bobby “B’LvD” Azure will lead the project through his ‘Azure Art D’sign’ program, and he has invited local artist-activists to participate in the project.
“I want to inspire people to be ‘The Artist,’ Azure said. “I believe we can all help one another bring color
and light into each other’s lives. I want to bring the people to the art and the art to the people.”
All artists in all media are invited to participate in the project, Sakwanomtewa said. Apply at www.StarlightProjects.org and in person at the PARA//EL Axis during the parking-lot open-house sale event, which will be held noon-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and TBA Sunday, Jan. 24. The event will include food trucks, live music and art.
