‘¡Ven a la Pachanga!’ come to the party! Oct. 16 at Klein Park

New Mexican culture and community will be celebrated during the fifth annual Pachanga and classic car and bike show, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Klein Park, 155 N. Mesquite St.

In addition to classic cars and bikes, the event will include Little Toad Creek’s beer garden, live music and entertainment, local arts and crafts vendors and food trucks, raffles, carriage rides, a bike rodeo, rock climbing wall and kids’ games.

There is no admission to attend the free community event.

Pachanga, which is sponsored by local businesses and the City of Las Cruces, begins at 11 a.m. with a blessing and raising of the colors by the Las Cruces Fire Department and the Marine Corps League. Mayor Ken Miyagishima and Mayor Pro Tempore Kassandra Gandara will speak. Emcees will be Magic Mike of Magic 104.9 FM Radio and state Sen. Carrie Hamblen of Las Cruces.

Performers will include the Mariachi Conference’s Orlando-Antonio Carrillo-Jimenez and Ballet Folklorico de la Academia Dolores Huerta, Dance Connection, Ron Leone Oldies Group, Toni Bueno, HD2 Studio, Prime The Band, Ziggy Lovah and Latin Funktion.

There also will be a pinup girl contest and a zoot-suit contest with prizes for best-dressed pachuco and pachuca. Each contest has an entry fee of $10.

Bring your own chairs!

Funds raised during the event will help Love Las Cruces, a local organization with nonprofit status pending, to support the community in area beautification efforts like community yard cleanup and art installments in the Mesquite Historic District through the Mesquite Historic Preservation Society.
