Thomas Branigan Memorial Library will host award-winning author and New Mexico native Michael McGarrity in a Zoom event beginning at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29.

McGarrity is former psychotherapist and retired law enforcement officer. He was New Mexico social worker of the year in 1980 and Santa Fe’s police officer of the year in 1987. McGarrity also won the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts for literature in 2004. He lives in Santa Fe.

McGarrity's crime novels take place in modern New Mexico, with law enforcement officer Kevin Kerney as the protagonist. The Kerney series began in 1996 with the novel “Tularosa,” and has continued with 13 additional books, including “Head Wounds,” which will be released in November and is billed as a “ferocious climax to the Kevin Kerney series.”

In addition, the prequel trilogy comprised of "Hard Country," "Backlands" and "The Last Ranch," traces the Kerney family's history in New Mexico from 1875 through the end of the Vietnam War.

During the Branigan Library presentation, McGarrity will discuss “Head Wounds,” in which Kerney’s son, Clayton Istee (a Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department detective), “goes up against an elusive Mexican hitman in a mesmerizing story of murder, revenge and redemption,” according to amazon.com.
