Ducks Redux
Everything's ducky in Deming, Aug. 21-24.
Ducks don't get no respect — except in Deming, home of the Great American Duck Races, where they're treated like Kentucky Derby thoroughbreds. Ducks are on the bill again this summer with the running of the ducks at the 29th annual duck races, but the Aug. 21-24 festivities don't stop there. The fun also includes a royal pageant, a dance, horseshoe, softball, outhouse race competitions, tortilla tossing, hot-air balloons and, of course, a chile cook-off. Not to mention a carnival, parade, food galore, vendors and, yes, duck races.
Each year the pageant has a theme, and this year it is "Gone Country." Endless possibilities suggest themselves with this premise, so shake your tail feathers on over to Deming and get down, get down. . .
