Table Talk
Stimulations will no longer be serving up its namesake on University Avenue in Las Cruces. The java joint dished Joe with a dollop of attitude, something you think would sell well in a college town. Inexplicably, and sadly, there go the Funk!
Yankie Creek Coffee House in Silver City is now catering to businesses and gatherings of all types, offering a menu of baked goods, coffees and teas for your meeting pleasure. Call for an estimate or to order up: 534-9025.
Spaghetti Western on Texas Street in Silver City has added Euro-cafe dinners on Fridays, 5-8 p.m., with individual table dining, and four off-menu items with specials, all Italian cuisine. Chef-owner Jake Politte says the addition is by customer demand. "Some people don't like family-style dining, and enough people have requested this, demanded it, I might add, and so I'm adding this option to make my customers happy," Politte says. The additional evening will likely make him happy, he adds, giving him the chance to rotate dishes into the menu that he hasn't had the chance to cook lately. Thursday (global cuisine) and Saturday (Italian) nights will still be served family style, by reservation only. Having added a dinner, the eatery will drop a lunch shift, serving Thurs.-Sat., 11 a.m.-2 p.m. And though there is no more take-out Italian market with dinners to go, take-out desserts abound. "I've had more time to bake," Politte says. Check it all out when Spaghetti Western reopens Jan. 5 after a holiday break. 534-4999.
Burger Time at 3231 N. Main St. in Las Cruces is back in the clear after the New Mexico Environmental Department inspected the premises and, being satisfied with what they found, upgraded the eatery from its recent "Unsatisfactory" rating to "Approved."
Brigid's Cross, an Irish Pub that will have a full menu and about a dozen kinds of beer, is slated to open by mid-February on the upper level at the Plaza at Picacho Hills in Las Cruces. Husband and wife owners Jovonna and Patrick Hanlon are importing all the decor and furnishings from the Emerald Isle. They take the name for their pub from St. Brigid of Ireland, who, according to legend, wove a cross out of rushes that covered the floor of her home; she was a founding patron of the Christian church in Ireland and one of the first Irish saints.
You want salsa with that? Las Crucens soon will have another Mexican restaurant to choose from, this one offering a quick burrito fix! Si Seor restaurant will open Si Seor Expressa drive-thru operation at the corner of Solano and Lohman sometime this year. The outlet will not serve alcohol, but will be open for breakfast and serve as a catering location. It's estimated some 20 employees will work at the site, according to Si Seor manager Sergio Castillo, who says the company is hoping for an opening in April or May.
Sara's Place has opened at 1750 N. Solano Dr. in Las Cruces, serving authentic Mexican food, according to its owners, brother and sister Fidel and Sylvia Ramirez. The eatery is named for their deceased aunt. Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 7 a.m.-4 p.m. 523-2278.
And another Cruces Mexican eatery, Fidencio's, has opened at 800 S. Telshor, in the spot Twisters vacated late last year. Fidencio's serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. 532-5624.
