Fourth Annual Red Paint PowWow

Silver City will celebrate the area's Apache heritage this month with the Fourth Annual Red Paint PowWow, Jan. 19, 20 and 21, at the Western New Mexico University Intramural Gym. The powwow is named for the Chihene Apache, also known as the Red Paint People and Warm Springs Apache. Doors open at 9 a.m. each day; bring a chair. In addition to vendors selling handmade Native American items throughout the day, the schedule includes:

 

Saturday, Jan. 20:

Gourd dancing--10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Grand entries--1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Closing--11 p.m.

 

Sunday, Jan. 21:

Gourd dancing--10 a.m.

Grand entries--1 p.m.

Closing--6 p.m.
