"Running on Full," an exhibit of work by Santa Fe artist Christy Hengst, will be shown at the Las Cruces Museum of Art Dec. 1-30, with an opening reception for the artist Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m. Hengst has a studio and teaches workshops in Santa Fe, where she has lived for 15 years.

The Museum of Art also will have Mata Ortiz pottery on exhibit Dec. 1-Jan. 20, with an opening reception and sale Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m. in the museum's Main Gallery. A display of pre-Columbian pottery on loan from the NMSU Kent Hall collection will also be featured. Anthropologist and Mata Ortiz scholar Spencer MacCallum will give a lecture, "The Legacy of Juan Quezada," Dec. 2, and archeologist Ben Brown will lecture on "Paquime: Archaeology and Inspiration," Jan. 20. The Museum of Art is calling for Rocky Mountain region ceramic artists to submit their work for a juried exhibit, "From the Ground Up," May 4-June 30, 2007. The Las Cruces Arts Association will participate in the Dec. 1 Downtown Ramble with its December show "Miniatures" on display at the Terrace Gallery on the second floor of the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library. Work in this exhibit will be for sale at under $200. Downtown Ramble hours are 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Terrace Gallery opening at 4 p.m. and closing 5:45 p.m., in compliance with the Branigan Library hours.

The Potters' Guild of Las Cruces will hold its Annual Holiday Sale Dec. 9 and 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Las Cruces Association of Realtors Building, 150 E. Idaho Ave. Members of The Bead Society of Las Cruces will also participate.

"Remembering the Forgotten River," the newest exhibit at the Southwest Environmental Center's Cottonwood Gallery, looks at how the Rio Grande in the Paso del Norte area has changed over the past century and a half, as evidenced by three sources: historic maps of the river; beautifully detailed wildlife illustrations from the US-Mexico Boundary Survey of the early 1850s; and SWEC's Remembering the Forgotten River oral history project, in which 20 long-time residents of El Paso, Juarez and southern New Mexico share their memories of growing up with the river and the changes they witnessed. Some of the oral history participants will be in attendance at the opening, 5-7 p.m. Southwest Environmental Center, Downtown Mall at Las Cruces Ave., 522-5552.

"Art, the Enduring Gift," opens with an afternoon reception Dec. 2, 1-4 p.m., at the Patio Art Gallery, at University and El Paseo in Las Cruces. Included is a special selection from the "Collectors' Sale," the gallery's November show.
