Mongolian Ping Pong—Through Aug. 17. The steady sound of wind over open fields is the only soundtrack for Hao Ning's film, and that lovely bit of texture is one of many artful touches that make this small, human story interesting and pleasing to watch. Ning's story centers on young Bilike, a boy living on his family's ranch in a treeless, grassy landscape that stretches on endlessly in every direction, and where their closest neighbor is somewhere over the curve of the earth. The catalyst in the film is a white ping pong ball that floats downstream one day and is plucked out of the water by Bilike, who shows it around his community to learn its purpose. He shares his treasure with his two pals, and they thrive on the mystery of it, until they hear on television that ping pong is the national sport, and determine that theirs must be ''the national ball.'' The three boys set out to Beijing to return it, a trip that quickly digresses from a fun adventure to a seriously dangerous situation. Nightly 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee 2:30 p.m. $6, members $4, students and seniors $5, matinees $5, Wednesdays $4. Fountain Theater, 2469 Calle de Guadalupe, 524-8278, www.fountaintheatre.org.

However, after being convinced by the other sisters that "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," Reverend Mother agrees. Performing in "The Pump Room" at the Mystique Motor Lodge, the sisters experience "show biz" like never before. $9, students/seniors $8, six and under $6.
