Three in the Cellar—Bits and pieces of movies have been shot around Las Cruces over the years, but this 1970 film is one of the few that was shot entirely in the community. Many Las Cruces residents were extras or crew for this cheesy ribald comedy, and then-Gov. David Cargo even made an appearance. Actor Wes Stern plays a college student who loses his scholarship because of the nasty university president, played by Larry Hagman. Joan Collins co-stars as Hagman's wife. Anyone who was in the film is encouraged to attend this screening. We will be sharing residents' memories of this film—good, bad or ugly! Tsotsi—Through July 27. Directed by Gavin Hood, this is an earnest film about the South African shantytowns. ''Tsotsi'' means criminal or gangster, and Presley Chweneyagae plays a brash young tearaway who has forgotten his own name and now answers to nothing but Tsotsi. He meets up with his dangerous crew most nights at the local shebeen, where there is plenty to drink and smoke and where they plan their next criminal spree. But the most lucrative crime is carjacking. Tsotsi crouches behind a tree as a luxury saloon pulls up to its security gates, giving Tsotsi a window of opportunity. He brandishes a gun, shoots the woman, gets in the car and drives off—and is many miles away before he realizes that there is a baby in the back. 2006 Oscar Winner, Best Foreign Language Film. Rated R. Nightly 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee 2:30 p.m. $6, members $4, students and seniors $5, matinees $5, Wednesdays $4. Fountain Theater, 2469 Calle de Guadalupe, 524-8278, www.fountaintheatre.org.
