The National Park Service: Is There a Future for the Past?—Lecture by NMSU History Professor Dwight T. Pitcaithley. La Fiesta de San Ysidro—Through May 21. A celebration of farming traditions and New Mexico's 3,000-year-old farming heritage. The festivities begin with the traditional Blessing of the Fields and continue throughout the day with an art show and sale, wine tasting, flamenco and folklorico dancers, mariachi music, children's activities, wagon rides and many art, cooking and farming demonstrations. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, 522-4100.

El Favor de Los Santos—The screening of this award-winning 2000 documentary coincides with the museum's San Ysidro Days festival. The film starts by taking viewers on a tour of the spiritual lives of 18th and 19th century Mexicans. In particular, it explains how icons such as the Virgin de Guadalupe and the Christ Child of Atocha attracted cult-like followings among the Mexican people. En route, the film visits several towns of importance to the Mexican spiritual community. Modern-day icon worship is then touched on, with looks at two present-day pilgrimages that take place each year in Chimayo and Las Cruces.
