The Stalking Moon—This 1968 western was released when Hollywood was just about finished with the genre and the film went largely unnoticed. Gregory Peck plays a scout who retires from the military to ranch with a friend in New Mexico. Circumstances soon have Peck taking a white woman (Eva Marie Saint) and her mixed-blood son with him. Only later does he learn that the boy's father, an Apache warrior, is following them and intends to reclaim his son, and perhaps kill the woman for deserting him. The film has suspense, creepy shadows and eerie noises in the dark and at times seems more like a mystery than a western. Admission (includes museum) adults $3, seniors $2, ages 6 to 17 $1. 1:30 p.m. Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, 522-4100, www.frhm.org.

SUNDAY 19

Silver City/Grant County

Paradise Now—This 2005 film follows two days in the lives of Said (Kais Nashef) and Khaled (Ali Suliman), two Palestinians, garage mechanics and best friends, who are recruited to cross into Israel and blow themselves up. Said is also falling in love with a woman, Suha (Lubna Azabal), who questions terrorist acts on both theological and practical grounds. Directed by Hany Abu-Assad and written by Abu-Assad and Bero Beyer. Wrote Roger Ebert: "The film is dangerous because of its objectivity, its dispassionate attention to the actual practical process by which volunteers are trained and prepared for the act of destruction." Rated PG-13 (for mature thematic material and brief strong language). In Arabic with English subtitles. 4 p.m. International Film Society, Real West Cinema II, 538-5142, scfilmsoc@zianet.com.
