Call for Artists

Artists living and working in New Mexico and the El Paso area are eligible to submit work for consideration for a solo or collaborative exhibit in the Director's Gallery of the Las Cruces Museum of Art in 2007. Deadline for submission of a proposal package is May 12. There is a $30 submission fee for each artist's packet. An outline of requirements is available at the museum or by contacting curator Joy Miller, 541-2221 or jmiller@las-cruces.org.

The museum is also seeking submissions for "The Spirit of Las Cruces Biennial Exhibition," a juried exhibit scheduled for June 2-July 22, 2006. Works in all media by residents of Las Cruces and Dona Ana County are eligible. Monetary prizes will be awarded. Submissions must be postmarked by March 17; submission fee (up to four entries) is $30, payable to City of Las Cruces. Entry forms are available at the museum.

What's on View

The Tombaugh Gallery in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Las Cruces is showing the paintings of Yvonne Postelle from March 1 through March 31, with an artist reception Sunday, March 5, from 12-2 p.m. Postelle has had advanced art studies at UTEP, and her paintings have received awards from El Paso Art Associations shows, Sierra-Providence International Art Exhibits, Sun Bowl International Art Exhibit, National League of American Pen Women, Mesilla Valley Art Exhibit and Black Range Art Exhibit. Her work has been greatly influenced by the painting of Monet after a tour of his gardens in France. The gallery is located at 2000 S. Solano; for more information call 522-7281 or see www.uuchurchlc.us.

Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery, 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe in Mesilla, will feature artists Hal Fore and Ken Stinnett in March. Fore paints in oils, mostly people and local landscapes and local subjects. His works are colorful and vibrant, showing a quirky sense of humor and obvious appreciation for the area. A New Mexico native, Fore was raised in California, where he attended the San Francisco Art Institute. Wildlife and landscape photographer Ken Stinnett has lived in the Southwest and the Chihuahuan Desert for the last 45 years. An extensive background in biology and ecology informs his natural history photography. Stinnett's photography has been featured in numerous books and regional and national publications including New Mexico Magazine, Texas Monthly, Consumer Reports, National Geographic and Audubon. For gallery information, call 522-2993.
