Happy New Year, everybody!

Well, this month the sun travels through grounding Capricorn (having entered this masterful sign on the 22nd of last month), demanding that we make things real, until Jan. 20, when it enters Aquarius and we must use what we have created to empower our authentic selves. So, there is no time like the present to contemplate our creations. When we look around us there are endless structures in place—but do they serve our higher purposes? This is where Capricorn has its greatest potential for service. We are asked to ground and make use of material things in spiritual ways. Why not create a world that is empowering to who we are and that exalts our authentic selves? The full moon on Jan. 14 will be in Cancer, inviting us to honor our feelings; the new moon on the 29th will be in Aquarius, asking us to take our feelings and our authentic selves into consideration all our designs. If the things we create limit us, are they really serving us? We can take what we have learned and create more empowering structures to sustain us now.

The month begins with fast-moving Mercury traveling direct through Sagittarius and quickly entering Capricorn on Jan. 3, and then moving into Aquarius on Jan. 22. Venus continues its retrograde movement, dipping out of Aquarius and back into Capricorn on Jan. 1. It joins Chiron in the heavens, deepening our honor of those who have traveled hard roads to gain knowledge. It is time to value the healers amoung us. Those who have learned through experience are the most powerful. Mars in Taurus opposes Jupiter in Scorpio on Jan. 15 and then squares Neptune in Aquarius. We are driven to move forward, but it is essential that we do so with depth and honor for ourselves. Why take meaningless actions? Saturn in Leo reaffirms our need to exalt ourselves as we live our lives. Let us be free and respect one another rather than confine and use people to fulfill selfish ends. Uranus is in Pisces, expanding our sense of what it means to be spiritual. Pluto is in Sagittarius, transforming our belief systems and helping us to make real our highest potenial as human beings in this world.

Famous Sagittarians: Isaac Newton, P. Yogananda, Joan of Arc.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)—There are times when we must hold our ground and be unwavering, Capricorn. Now is such a time, as you are asked to forego temporary acceptance from others in favor of more noble objectives. We are who we are and life asks you to stand strong inside of your own personal beliefs and allow others to grow in their capacity to respect you and your views. Oh, and by the way, happy birthday!

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)—You may find yourself wanting to avoid difficult circumstances more than ever these days, Aquarius. There is nothing wrong with taking space when and where you can. The time may come later when you will feel more equipped or more eager to exist with those you feel bad chemistry with now. Why go there if you don't have to?

PISCES (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)—You find yourself feeling capable of getting things done, Pisces. You feel your footing and it is strong. We all have times when we are in sync and times when we are less able to affect things in the ways we desire. It is more challenging for those less focused on the workings of the material world to feel masterful in it—so, enjoy it while it lasts!

ARIES (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)—Hey, Aries, your challenge now is to be accepting and loving toward yourself. The dilemma with always taking on new challenges is that the odds are they will not work out the way we want them to every single time. When things do not go as planned, it is perfectly OK to retreat, recuperate and take time out to admire your great and courageous spirit!

TAURUS (Apr. 20-May 20)—There is nothing quite like the overabundance of the holiday festivities to leave even the Tauruses among us feeling satiated beyond the old comfort zone! Now is the perfect time to pare down and return to the balanced state that allows you to enjoy worldly pleasures without the discomfort of overindulgence.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)—You are in a position to give to those in need and you do it with grace, Gemini. You turn to the outer world in search of the best use of your energy and find great pleasure in heading in the directions that call to you. There are times when we have more than we need and are able to share with others without shame.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)—You give and receive love freely, Cancer. This is your element and when you find life to be unfolding in ways that you can relax inside of, you naturally return to this ultimate goal and more comfortable way of being. You love to hold the space for others and the nurturing you give is more valuable than you could ever imagine.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)—The rest of the world may be hibernating, but you are raring and ready to go, Leo! You have the jump on the rest of us and we applaud you as you keep things rolling. You can pretty much make anything happen that you set your mind to these days, so think carefully! If your wish list has run low, I'm sure there are others around you who will happily give you theirs to fulfill.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)—This is the perfect time to meditate on your own wealth, Virgo. You hold great value and you are ready to allow more wealth into your life. It is not always easy for Virgos to allow themselves to have a lot when the world has so much suffering in it; in a way, it feels rude. But your sensitivity is a beautiful thing and all that you have done in service is worthy of reward. It is most important for you to know this. You, like all human beings, deserve a good life.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)—It is time to tune out all that incredible information you have accumulated about others and tune into yourself, Libra. What you need now is un-interfered-with space to think and to figure things out. Libras know what others need and want from them; it is instinctual for you. But now you need to take some space from all that consideration, and work with your mind in ways that take only your own thoughts into consideration.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)—Brooding can be pleasurable—but so can the silliness that happiness brings! You are more forward and more able to be with others because you feel happier with them than usual. Depth can be lonely—not that this is a bad thing, but sometimes happiness just shows up and draws us out to revel in our childlike nature—for a while, anyway.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)—Even the best-laid plans. . . how does that saying go? Well, regardless of how intent we may be in our actions, life itself does seem to have a will of its own. When we give something our all and things do go as planned, there is not much more we can do than be loving and gentle with ourselves and do what we can to trust that the stronger energy has a divine source, which will reveal itself down the road—when everything will make sense again!
